Do you find that there is a specific time during the day where you feel slightly sluggish and tired? If you do, you aren't alone! Most of us feel this way around two or three o'clock in the afternoon. Get over you midday slump and boost your energy with these tips and tricks!
1. Balanced and Healthy Diet
Our bodies run on food much like a car runs on fuel. We need food to run properly and smoothly. By starting the day off with a balanced breakfast, you help stop drowsiness in its tracks. If you struggle to get all the energy you need for breakfast, be sure to have healthy snacks throughout the day to keep your blood sugar levels steady and your mind focused. Stick to nutrient-rich snack options to avoid consuming foods full of empty calories.
Be sure to keep in mind that snacking in moderation is good for us, but overeating is not. The more food our body has to digest, the more sluggish you will feel.
2. Workout in the Morning or Midday
One of the best ways to boost your energy throughout the day is by implementing a regular physical exercise routine. A brisk 30 minute workout 3-5 days a week will help increase your energy and endurance. If the day-to-day activities are leaving you winded and fatigued, this is a surefire way to help increase endurance and energy throughout your entire day.
Working out in the morning or at lunch time is often the most beneficial for energy. If you workout too close to bedtime, you may find it difficult to fall asleep because of a boosted level of energy. Consider joining a group fitness class like yoga or Zumba for an added social benefit.
3. Add Variety to Your Daily Routine
If you find yourself stuck in a routine, chances are you will feel the impact. Add new and engaging activities to your daily life to increase energy and brain function. If you always have down time around two or three o'clock in the afternoon, consider taking a class to mix things up. This could be an art class or a group exercise class. Both of these can help introduce a new activity to your otherwise mundane routine.
If a group class isn't your thing, try starting a new hobby. Starting a new activity or hobby is another simple way to challenge yourself both physically and mentally!
4. Let in Some Light
Have you ever noticed how natural light affects your energy levels? If you haven't, consider opening the blinds the next time you hit your midday slump! If you're at the office and looking for a caffeine-free energy boost, take your work outside to reap the benefits of fresh air and the sun's natural rays.
5. Listen to Your Favorite Song
It's impossible to ignore the natural boost you feel when your favorite song comes on the radio. Listening to the right music when you are feeling drowsy can make all the difference. Try putting together a playlist of songs that give you that extra boost for moments when you need it most.
6. Catch Some ZZZs
While there is no magic number for the world to go by, getting adequate sleep is one of the most obvious and beneficial ways to feel more rested and naturally increase your energy levels. For some, it's the suggested eight hours, while others may find that seven, or even nine hours is more appropriate. Find what works best for you and stick to it!
If you didn't have a chance to get in your magic sleep number, consider taking a short nap in the afternoon. You'll only need 20-30 minutes to experience the rejuvenated feeling you experience after a full night's rest.
